Financial Controller
$150,000 + Super
St Kilda Road (hybrid flexibility)
Full-time / permanent role

About the Role

We're partnering with a growing, forward-thinking business looking for a hands-on Financial Controller to take full ownership of the finance function.

This is more than a standard FC role - you'll be embedded in the business, driving financial clarity, improving processes, and giving leadership the insights they need to scale. If you enjoy building structure, influencing decisions, and rolling up your sleeves, this one's for you.

What You'll Be Doing

Financial Management

  • Own the month-end process (journals, reconciliations, accruals)
  • Manage AP/AR, invoicing, and debtor follow-ups
  • Maintain Xero, bank feeds, and general ledger
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting

Payroll & Compliance

  • End-to-end payroll (STP, super, PAYG)
  • BAS/IAS preparation and lodgement
  • FBT, payroll tax, and compliance reporting
  • Reconciliation of payroll and entitlements

Project & Operational Support

  • Support project system accuracy and invoicing
  • Monitor timesheets and billable hours
  • Partner with project managers to improve financial outcomes

Cash Flow & Forecasting

  • Maintain and manage cash flow forecasts
  • Monitor cash position and identify risks/opportunities

Reporting & Insights

  • Deliver weekly and monthly reports with meaningful commentary
  • Track KPIs and provide actionable insights
  • Ad hoc analysis to support leadership decisions

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement smarter ways of working
  • Document SOPs and maintain clean financial records
  • Support upcoming ERP implementation

Leadership

  • Manage an offshore finance resource
  • Work closely with the CFO and leadership team
  • Contribute to strategic and operational initiatives

What You'll Bring

  • 7+ years' experience in accounting / finance roles
  • Strong Xero (or similar ERP) experience
  • Advanced Excel / Power Query skills
  • Solid technical accounting knowledge
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Confident communicator who can engage with senior stakeholders

Bonus Points

  • CPA or CA qualified
  • Experience in a tech or project-based environment
  • Exposure to ERP implementations or system improvements
