We're looking for a driven Research & Development Engineer to join a leading Australian payments technology company. This role plays a key part in ensuring our payment products and devices are reliable, high-performing, and continuously improving.
About the Role
As the R&D Engineer, you'll be responsible for testing, configuring, troubleshooting, and enhancing both hardware and software across our payment technology suite. You'll work closely with the CTO and broader R&D team to support product development, conduct QA testing, and help roll out new hardware and software into the market.
This role suits someone who enjoys working hands-on with devices, analysing logs, solving technical challenges, and contributing to the development of new products.
What You'll Do
- Perform QA testing to ensure products are free from defects across hardware and software.
- Work directly with hardware components to test, configure, and validate functionality.
- Analyse communication and hardware logs to diagnose issues and recommend solutions.
- Develop and implement test scripts for new and existing products.
- Create change management plans and maintain user documentation.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, and device issues.
- Assist in installing and configuring hardware and software.
- Support the rollout of new payment devices, systems, and associated services.
- Manage multiple projects or incidents simultaneously.
- Collaborate with the CTO and R&D team to ensure all systems meet business needs.
About You
- Strong experience with hardware and software testing methodologies.
- Hands-on technical skills with electronics or electro-mechanical systems.
- QA testing experience.
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to interpret hardware and communication logs.
- Clear communicator-able to explain technical concepts to all audiences.
- Proactive, detail-focused, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience in Technical Support, Desktop Support, or a similar role.
- Comfortable working across Windows and/or Linux environments.
- Tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science, Electronics or equivalent experience is beneficial.
- Experience with cash-handling equipment is a bonus.
