The Health and Wellbeing Advisor plays a key role in the development, implementation and management of a health and wellbeing framework that aims to enhance the physical, mental, emotional, and social wellbeing of this workforce.
About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Pacific Islander Labour Welfare and Wellbeing Advisor to assist PALM (Pacific Australia Labour Mobility) employees in navigating Australian culture.
As a Welfare & Wellbeing Advisor, you will join the Pacific Islander Workforce Support team and will have a pivotal role in supporting the PALM team. This dynamic and varied role requires you to provide care and support to the PALM team, ensuring their wellbeing and addressing any concerns.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement, collaborate with stakeholders, and provide vital advice on health and wellbeing matters within the workplace.
Occasional weekend and after-hours work may be required to address urgent matters with time off in lieu.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working cohesively with the other Welfare & Wellbeing Officers and the wider Pacific Islander Workforce Support team
- Supporting interactions between the organization and labour unions
- Implementing policies, resolving workplace issues, and ensuring compliance with employment laws
- Assisting PALM employees in adapting to Australian culture
- Developing and maintaining strong, trusting relationships with PALM workers
- Identifying and addressing issues and ensuring a timely resolution
- Assisting workers with accessing services required (e.g. medical care)
- Administrative tasks including timely responses to emails and ensuring all employment documents are recorded appropriately
- Providing extensive support and advice to all PALM workers and the program.
About You:
We are looking for someone with a strong passion for health, safety, and wellbeing, particularly in early intervention health management. You must have experience in managing similar projects and the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders. Your experience will help guide decision-making processes and ensure that initiatives are delivered efficiently and with the highest standard.
Other attributes we are seeking:
- A degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Psychology or Welfare
- An affinity to the cultures of Polynesian (Samoan) and Melanesian employees (Papua New Guinean and Fijian)
- Experience working with a culturally diverse workforce would be advantageous
- Ability to build trusting relationships with workers, where English maybe a second language
- Open Drivers licence and First Aid Certificate essential (course will be provided if certificate not already attained)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
